Africa continues to be afflicted with all sorts of scourges - and terrorism is at the top of the hit parade in a number of countries - Sudan, Somalia. Olivier Guitta has a piece in the Weekly Standard which he previews at the Counterterrorism Blog on the forgotten war in Algeria - with its own brand of Islamic fascist terrorists akin to al-Qaeda called the GPSC. Their stock in trade is kidnappings to raise money - as well as massacres and other mayhem - and are not discriminating in their targets - taking any and all for no good reason. The group's oxymoronic name is Algerian Salafist Group for Prayer and Combat - and their daily body counts rival Baghdad's on any given day.
It is little wonder that Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol has been so adamant about a muscular and aggressive response to global terrorism, given the material passing his way for publication in his magazine - frightening and seems to be growing virulent.
