Regency Fills Vacuum - American Royal Blood Weakening in the Bush - Kennedy
- Clinton Lineages?
"A Senate Regency"
from Outside the Beltway reflects on an article from the Washington Times that
decries the receivership that the Senate has been taken over by.
It remains to be seen how this will be played out - if Senator Frist and/or
the Dems will reconsider and do something to trigger the nuclear option down
the road. While this is seen as breaking with party loyalty, principle can be
in the eye of the beholder. It is not as if legislators or executives have never
held their noses and voted on bills - any more than the electorate has held
their collective noses at the polls.
As America drifts towards a quasi-royal anointing of family members with name
value and a sense of entitlement, the leadership blood lines and loins may be
diluting - and moving to the further ends of the party's wings - think of Senator
Ted Kennedy vs. President Kennedy, President George W. Bush vs. President H.
W. Bush and Senator Hillary Clinton vs. President Bill Clinton. While the country
trends to the center, it is easier with a built in base to go towards either
party's end to get one's way - not having to do as many compromises along the
way to pile up chips.
Power is not always the province of the name on the door - much power is wielded
by those who are not in the driver's seats but engineer the legislation or get
the job done.
