Mercy is the heart of the Gospel, Pope Francis said yesterday during his talk to the participants of the course on the internal forum promoted by the Apostolic Penitentiary. On the theme of Confession, the Pope observed that the faithful approach confession often with difficulty. Priests must favor mercy and pardon, while guarding themselves from rigorism and laxity. Confession is not a tribunal of condemnation but the experience of pardon and of mercy. For this reason, it is very important that in every diocese and parishes that the celebration of this sacrament of pardon and of salvation is particularly cared for. In every parish it is good that the faithful would know when they can find available priests.
