Laura Ingraham hosted Dr. Stephanie Newman, author of Mad Men on the Couch.
Newman commented on parents pushing their children to the hilt, too hard due to their anxieties over the child's future. She said we're a very child centered society. She said their is an unspoken arms race among parents to give their child an edge. Ingraham noted that in big families the attention is dispersed and not focused on one or two children. Newman spoke of the year round nature of sports instead of seasonal and that children become burned out and get premature injuries.
Newman said there is a balance between some structured and some free play activities.
