Laura Ingraham hosted Dr. Ned Hallowell on the use and abuse of Adderall, columnist for Attitude Magazine.
Hallowell said students popping Adderall to get an edge in their education and it is akin to medical Russian roulette for one's health. He advised drinking coffee instead. Ingraham stated that some students who are prescribed Adderall sell their pills to other students. Hallowell said the drugs are a God send for people who need the drugs, but can be harmful to those who abuse the drugs - and it is illegal to get a prescription drug off the black market as it is illegal.
Hallowell said the effects of ADHD can make a person very creative, but also very self-destructive. Ingraham cited the number of parents who struggle with a child with ADHD and Hallowell said that Adderall and similar drugs can help adults focus as well.
Hallowell understands the thinking behind the legalizing of all drugs to eliminate the criminal market, but that it would result in more addicts and other pernicious effects.
