Laura Ingraham hosted David McCullough Jr., author of You Are Not Special.
McCullough said if everyone is special, no one is. He said graduation is a beginning, not an ending. Ingraham said this mentality is spurred by parents instead of the love of learning, not to collect trophies. McCullough said students are working for the grades and honors, not for the love of learning. Ingraham pointed to the constant testing and McCullough said he's the parent of four children and understands the pressures. He described education as taking risks while the culture encourages no risk taking. Ingraham said the economy is another concern because of the tight job market. McCullough said children need more freedom from being scrutinized.
