Laura Ingraham hosted Rep. Luis Gutierrez.
Gutierrez believes there are immigration laws on the books need to be changed, such as massive deportation that disrupts families lives. He said there are laws that are repealed or reformed all the time and that laws should reflect the needs of the nation. Ingraham responded that laws are enforced selectively. Gutierrez said Democrats are upset with President Obama has overseen more deportations via the Safe Communities Act provisions.
Gutierrez stated that the unemployment rate has been lowered and can't understand how illegal immigrants can work here and get benefits at the same time and that people born in the US are more apt to be on welfare than illegal immigrants. Ingraham noted that Gutierrez' statements are the similar to Congressional elites who basically deem US citizens as lazy. She cited statistics that show immigrants getting billions in benefits and that this hurts lower middle class workers especially.
Gutierrez said he wants illegal immigrants to be on the books so they pay taxes and contribute to US society. He claims that erasing uncertainty will stimulate the economy. Ingraham said US citizrens have no faith in Congress legislating for their benefit and that there is no evidence that comprehensive immigration reform. Gutierrez agreed that wages are depressed by bringing in immigrants as unscrupulous businesses exploit these workers. Ingraham asked why Democrats don't want to raise wages for Americans. Gutierrez said we need agricultural workers and Ingraham asked if he wants to have people who work at slave wage levels. Gutierrez pointed to business and labor working together on immigration and Ingraham pointed to this as a unholy alliance to benefit union bosses and businesses.
