Laura Ingraham hosted Amy Chua, author of The Triple Package.
Chua said the triple package of traits to rise in America are deep seeded sense of exceptionalism, a sense of insecurity and great self-discipline. She said proving oneself is the American way and the opposite of self-satisfaction. She noted that groups rise and fall over time and that today's groups will fall when they feel entitled. She stated that the whole self-esteem push has been proven to be a failure, leading to young people feeling defeated when they don't measure up. She cited Jews, Mormons, Nigerians as three groups who have high expectations and instill discipline in their children. Ingraham noted that there is a strong family element within these groups.
Ingraham pointed to teachers who instilled excitement and a bit of fear in students that she learned the most from and Chua agreed. She and Ingraham feel that electronic devices aren't the answer.
Chua cited her eldest daughter who has joined ROTC which was a total surprise to her.
