Newsom said California has rested on its laurels and has a high unemployment rate in most of the state with two Californias where the tech boom area does well and the rest of the state doesn't.
Newsom said that there needs to be tax reform and knows as he's headed up businesses and realizes the costs that can cause business to relocate. He cited California's human capital and excellent university system.
Newsom said he favors local control over state control on a number of issues including prison overcrowding. He spoke of the court orders that forces the state's hands to do things they wouldn't normally want to do.
Newsom said he's a pro-job, pro-business Democrat and says he can't stand what is going on in DC with politicans concerned about anything but what they should be. He said the sequester isn't the way to go and that there is scaremongering on both sides.
