Along with the US military, China has deemed Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and the Backstreet Boys as threats to national security as their raunchy lyrics may contain political messages contrary to Chairman Mao's party line. There are 100 songs that make the Communist Party hit list.
This is actually an issue that some Americans could agree with the Chinese - at least as a threat to physical, mental health and the general morality of the nation. One has to wonder how many of the leaders and their progeny have these songs on their own playlists, banning them from the people a la Kim Jong Il and his movie collections.
The Ministry of Culture has announced Chinese music download sites must delete songs by the artists within two weeks or face the consequences.
Officials have posted a list of 100 forbidden songs - including Lady Gaga's 'Judas' and Perry's 'Last Friday Night' - because they have not met the approval of the party leadership.
