The Virginia Gazette reports thatDan Rather was in town last Saturday to report on the slumping tourism and economy in Williamsburg, Virginia. The problem is that the tourist area in Colonial Williamsburg was crowded. Rather picked Williamsburg because of the city's high unemployment rate of 20% - but as city officials pointed out, much of this is due to seasonal workers and the high percentage of college students in the area who are employed. Some local officials weren't interviewed - but Democrat National Committee chairman Governor Timothy Kaine was.
Williamsburg is part of the Historic Triangle and includes such attractions as Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens as well as other attractions.
