Barack Obama announced his national security team on December 1st that seemed predicated on politics rather than either change or experience in the main with the exception of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and National Security Advisor James Jones who will give some muscle and experience for the rhetoric and political cover in the strength and toughness area. What is most troubling is the huge lack of experience in the top two positions - Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Since there was so much press gushing about the stock market surging on the news of Obama's economic team, we may have to conclude that a forward predictive market was reacting to his national security team as the markets plunged.
Clinton who has had no noteworthy executive or foreign policy experience relative to other available candidates clearly seems to be mainly a political pick to keep her inside the Obama tent backing him up.
Eric Holder as Attorney General at the Department of Justice has mulitple areas of question - the Marc Rich pardon, the FALN mess, the Elian Gonzalez bungling.
Dr. Susan Rice as United Nations Ambassador has been cited for barring the capture of Osama bin Laden during her time in the President Clinton State Department.
Governor Janet Napolitano seems to have no compelling background in homelad security beyond being the governor of a border state - and Senator John McCain's potential rival in 2010 has been knocked out. She helps with gender and outsider status, clearly.
