"Obama girls will go to Sidwell Friends" from the Washington Post reports that Barack and Michelle Obama will send their girls to the tony, expensive Sidwell Friends private school as they deem it the "best fit" for their daughters - despite the fact that Obama sang a different tune about the worthiness of public schools during the campaign. Apparently the public schools aren't a good fit for his children - but the employees votes are a good fit for his election.
This is the typical limosine liberalism and hypocrisy that Democrats have expressed for years regarding public education - and another sign of gross elitism.
Obviously other parents share the Obamas' concern about security of their children's schools, the quality of their education, etc. - so there aren't really any good excuses or reasons.
Lelyveld declined to elaborate on the reasons, but it is believed that Sidwell's experience with handling the security and privacy of the children of government leaders played a role. President Richard Nixon's daughter Tricia went to Sidwell. Vice President Al Gore's son, Albert Gore III, graduated from there. Three granddaughters of Vice President-elect Joe Biden currently attend the school: Maisy, 8; Finnegan, 10; and Naomi, 14.
