"Ready to attack Obama, if some money arrives" from the New York Times - which the Obama touting Times put on A1 to justify the fact that Obama decided to opt out of the federal financing of his general election campaign, reports on one of the 527's that Obama said were out to get him - namely that of Floyd Brown and his wife Mary Beth. These two have a pittance relative to the MoveOn.org and other Democratic left-wing groups who have already put out ads on John McCain.
"The false alarm on GOP third party efforts" by Jonathan Martin of Politico also points out the hyperbolic effort by the NY Times to support Obama on this rather specious claim.
Mr. Brown conceded that his operation was in its infancy, showing $40,000 in the bank between two committees at the end of March for its first-quarter filing with the Federal Election Commission. Nevertheless, he appears to be at least mounting a serious effort that offers a glimpse at the challenges for such groups, as well as their potential.
At the heart of the effort is a Web site, ExposeObama.com, that has featured two Web advertisements, one on Mr. Obama’s record on crime and the other on his religious background.
