Senator John McCain entered the No-Spin Zone with Bill O'Reilly on "The Factor" as he enters the general election season.
McCain said that lack of judgment and inexperience are Barack Obama's greatest weaknesses - particularly on Obama's plan to raise taxes and talking to enemies who are ready to destroy Israel. McCain said that if a dictator is ready to abandon their threatening activities, they can be dealt with, but it is important not to give them a forum.
McCain said that Reverend Wright and Barack Obama's relationship is their business, but that he condemns his inflammatory remarks. McCain said that raising taxes during an economic downturn is wrong. McCain rejects Reverend Hagee's views on Catholics - he has met him but doesn't buy into his views. McCain said he knows it will be a tough campaign with lots of stories coming at him and that he worries about his family, but can stand up to it and has faith in the American people. McCain said he knows that 527's are out there and has to deal with them as do other candidates.
McCain campaigned for President Bush and voted for him.
McCain said that there has been speculation on the energy markets and that he would keep an eye on their activities. He noted that the poorest people drive the farthest and the oldest cars and thus are most affected by gas prices - and that they deserve a gas holiday. McCain said that there is a cartel that sets prices that affects markets - and that the United States needs to become energy independent. McCain defended keeping national treasures pristine and said he is an environmentalist.
McCain said that the American people want the borders controlled. He said that the federal government has failed in its policy - and needs to crack down on the borders, needs tamper proof ID for legal immigrants.
McCain said it is the cost and availability that is our health care problem. He favors health care being in the hands of the people, not the government.
McCain said that the longer people stay in the military, the greater educational advantages they will get.
