"Obama, Huckabee Sweep In Iowa Victories" from AP reports on the substantial victories by Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mike Huckabee in January 3rd's Iowa caucuses.
Both victories were larger than was anticipated - with Mike Huckabee, despite a wave of criticism from the GOP elites, scored a nine point lead over Governor Mitt Romney who poured millions into his race and had a solid organization.
Meanwhile Senator Hillary Clinton's inevitability factor evaporated as Senator Obama stuck to themes that have resonated from his first speeches at Occidental College as depicted in his book "Dreams of My Father" - namely the uniting of red state and blue state America to be the United States of America. He has honed that message that he presented on the national stage at the 2004 Democratic presidential nominations and has used it very effectively as the backbone of his campaigns since.
This is an early wake up call to party elites - that traditional values are important, that people are concerned about the economy and aren't concerned about the rich getting soaked - but how they are getting hosed and that authenticity is more important than all that money can buy.
RESULTS:
Obama 37.53; Edwards 29.88; Clinton 29.41
Huckabee 34; Romney 25; Thompson 14; McCain 13%; Paul 10%
