Laura Ingraham hosted Governor Mitt Romney.
Romney said that he wasn't governor when Commonwealth Care abortions and that it was the courts that decided that abortion must be covered. He said that with the new health care program he and the legislature put in place, the state subsidized abortions went down due to the larger role of private insurance in the broad plan. Romney said that he thinks it would be a great idea if he was president to go to the March for LIfe. He said that when he was governor he had a very strong pro-life record - and evolved just as Reagan, the first President Bush did.
Romney said that we as a country do give supports to industries when and if they need it. He thinks that the government should work with the unions and auto industry to make sure that the standards aren't punitive. He thinks the federal government's role should be in investing in science and technology. He does feel there are circumstances where the government would have to put brakes on certain countries that don't play fairly by the rules such as manipulation of currency, not allowing us into their markets and abusing copyright standards. He said the government should enhance America's interests. He said that long term he is concerned about the future of the dollar and he said that is affected by the world view of the US's debt and entitlement liabilities - as well as the dependence on foreign oil. He said we can beat China economically with technology and innovation - which means better schools, investments in science and technology. He said companies spent more on tort reform rather than research and development.
Romney said he would welcome President Bush on the campaign trail with himself as he is a person of integrity. He says that Governor Huckabee went over the line in saying that President Bush is arrogant and into a bunker mentality.
Romney said he would review Compean and Ramos' files and then would consider their pardons. He said he made no pardons as governor as Governor Huckabee did.
