    Benazir Bhutto, Martyr for Democracy

Asia "Benazir Bhutto killed in attack" from BBC News reports that former Pakistani Prime MInister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by a suicide bombing in what was regarded as the secure city of Rawalpindi after speaking at a rally.  She was the head of the Pakistan People's Party and was running for eleciton in January.  She had been in self-imposed exile for the past eight years.

Whatever anyone's opinion of Bhutto's politics, this is a blow for democracy in general and a specific threat in a region of the world precipitously roiling with extremist eleements - and with proximity to nuclear weapons.
