    Fossil Fuels Greener Than Biofuels?

"Rapeseed biofuel ‘produces more greenhouse gas than oil or petrol’" from Times of London reports that, contrary to promoted belief, biofuels such as rapeseed and maize raise emissions 70% and 50% respectively more than fossil fuels.

In addition, food prices have been pushed up and are costing the public more than the increase in gas prices.

Of course, with the key caucus state of Iowa a big biofuel state, don't count on this affecting the US Congress any time soon.

Measurements of emissions from the burning of biofuels derived from rapeseed and maize have been found to produce more greenhouse gas emissions than they save.

Other biofuels, especially those likely to see greater use over the next decade, performed better than fossil fuels but the study raises serious questions about some of the most commonly produced varieties.
