Hsu Back Story Reveals Parasitic Relations With Pols, Investors

"Fundraisers Wallet Matched His Need to Please" from the NY Times analyzes the back story of disgraced Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu who apparently had a pathological need ot remake his brand after being on the lam for 15 years on fraud charges - and in a win-win situation, raised money for candidates and then used his cachet with them to raise money for his own interests.  He apparently was desperate to be one of the party's movers and shakers and people handed him their donations, even as they were uneasy with him.  It was a perfect parasitic relationship with politicians, elites and criminals.

What is unclear is why Hsu thought he would never get found out - did he think that the Clintons and other Democrats would bail him out of his troubles?  Given Bill Clinton's record in pardoning such fiends as financier Marc Rich, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for Hsu to think he could make the Democrats so indebted to him that they would find a way to reset his record and to let him keep raising cash for them, even as they shrunk away from him.

It seems like just desserts for all involved - as everyone's selfish motives got exposed and reputations got further tarnished.
