While the United States reels from recent coal mining accidents in which miners have met with death, ""Child labour in Kyrgyz coal mines" from BBC News reports on hundreds of child laborers do extremely dangerous work in Soviet Union era mines in Kyrgyzstan for $3 a day - needed by their very poor families to survive. While the children know their work is dangerous, they know it is necessary for family survival.
This is yet another outrage - the exploitation of children to supply the world's energy needs.
In a review of energy history in one of Michie's articles he said that water power was free and, with what we paid the miners, coal was about free too.
