La Raza Claims "Wave of Hate" Downed Senate Immigration Bill

"Hispanic group aimes to stop 'wave of hate'" from the Washington Times reports that the National Council of La Raza, in a conference in Miami Beach, expressed concern about what they claim has been the influence of talk radio on the recent Senate immigration bill's collapse - and are looking to ramp up efforst to mobilize and register voters for the election.  Leadership said that it wasn't just illegal immigration that was being targeted, but that naturalized citizens were being harassed - and that the battle is about race.  La Raza means the race in Spanish, so apparently this is the focus of the group.

The group backs bills to protect credit card users and make it easier for foreign-born workers to send remittances back home. The group also supports stronger assessment and accountability provisions when Congress updates the No Child Left Behind education bill, and it opposes efforts to make English the "official" language of the United States.
