The AP reports on the least surprising news of the day - the resignation of UK PM Tony Blair. While his resignation has been forced in large part due to his support of the Iraq war, his list of achievements has been impressive - in moving the Labour party from far left to a more centrist party, improving the economy, etc.. He also was there for the power sharing to take hold in Northern Ireland, a modern miracle, after years of violence and strife. He was and is a staunch friend to the US and a charismatic orator.
Under the stewardship of Blair and Brown, the British economy has thrived. London rivals New York as the world's pre-eminent financial center, GDP is up, unemployment is down and interest rates are low, though rising. However, Blair's promised health and education reforms remain incomplete, and soaring house prices and increasing personal debt threaten to widen the divide between haves and have-nots.
The Wall Street Journal has an introduction to Gordon Brown, his expected successor "Britain after Blair"..
But this is Tony Blair's day and the world has not heard the last of him, for sure.

One down, two to go! Call 202-225-0100 and add your name to the thousands that have been added to the on-going petition for the other two. This is a legitimate Congressional number and not a grassroots or special interest group. Each state has its own going and you can contact your current state legislature but the number above is for the national petition for the impeachment of Bush/Cheney. The movement has started and cannot be stopped. GOP support for these two idiots and their miserably failed foreign policy is eroding by the hour. Make the call at 202-225-0100 and add your voice to the thousands.
