"Operation Baghdad Week II" by Mohammed at Iraq The Model, contributer to Pajamas Media and the Wall Street Journal's editorial page, reports that the operation has had its ups and downs in the first two weeks - and he is taking the long view. Mohammed has done citizen patrols of the city with insightful observations so the reader gets the unvarnished truth and not the media or political spin on either side of the Atlantic.
He remorts the incremental increase in troops - and that he got checked seven times in a two hour tour of the city. However, he reports that citizens want the aggressive checks to tamp down the attacks. He also said that PM Nouri al-Maliki and other officials have made some public appearances to allay fears and he has issued the following orders:
-Offices of political parties are not allowed to possess heavy weapons for defense.
-Vehicles or buildings from which fire is opened on civilians or security forces will be confiscated and their inhabitants/drivers arrested.
-The selling of petroleum products in the black market is prohibited.
On the flip side, the spewing of chlorine gas as the latest weapon du jour and the alleged rape of a Sunni woman by Shia law enforcement have been negatives. The judiciary is trying to cope with all of this...
