Senator Johnson Stroke Could Have Big Consequences

The AP reports that Democrat Senator Tim Johnson of South Dakota has potentially suffered a stroke.  He was taken by ambulance to the hospital from his Capitol Hill office.

If he should become incapacitated, a replacement could be appointed by the Republican governor - and the replacement could be a Republican.  Given that the Senate is now at 51-49 - and with a Republican replacement the Senate would be tied - with Vice-President Cheney casting the tie-breaking vote.  Thus the tenuous hold the Democrats would have on the Senate would be essentially gone.  This should stoke up moonbat conspiracy theories - will probably compare GOP to Putin!
