Will Zlango Help Cross Cultural Communications Or Be A Visual Tower of Babel In Time?

TechCrunch reports on Zlango, a icon based SMS that has potential implications also for e-mail and IM.

The main one seems to be that it could be used across different languages with simple pictures depicting words.  How Zlango would evolve if users' tools could be used to do so - and if this would end up being a visual Tower of Babel in time - and if there would remain a standard sort of dictionary repository is another question.  But it seems interesting and a way - like music - for ideas to be communicated in a more universal language.

It would also be problematic for those with visual difficulties - just as audio input is for those with hearing problems.
