Schaeffer, whose son served two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, notes that in previous "glorious" wars, there were many examples of leadership and actions that make today's military actions seem tame by comparison. Schaeffer deplores the lack of context and contact that most Americans have with today's military. He also takes leadership to task who are not connected to the military either by personal experience or by having children in the military and who plan such conflicts without sufficient care as the the execution of the mission or the troops welfare.
This editorial is a must read as we all moralize about the situations involving our military.
