Saddam Enablers Perform Legacy Rescue on His Women's Rights Record

The Wall Street Journal's Opinion Journal has an excellent article by A. Yasmine Rassam of the Independent Women's Forum, on the legacy rescue of Saddam Hussein by several radical leftist groups, including Code Pink and Global Exchange.  They note that women were able to work, drive and own property under Saddam Hussein.

However, Saddam was selective in the rights he would grant - and was amenable to granting them as long as everyone supported him - and had other areas such as rape, torture, beheadings, massive massacres of various "enemies" and groups.  To elevate a dictator such as Saddam Hussein as Iraq works toward establishing its democracy is quite an act of political pandering - and a huge disservice to women everywhere.
