Misplaced Sympathy for Terrorists Hurts the Innocent

Michelle Malkin writes about MSM sympathy for terror in the NYT piece on Zacharia Moussaoui's pitiful childhood and his potential affliction with schizophrenia, and as also reported in the Associated Press.  Clearly the defendent himself got it right when he noted that this is a lot of American BS.

While each defendent is entitled to the best defense he/she can get, these tactics of portraying a hardened terrorist as a victim is over the line - and is harmful to people with mental illness with guilt by association.  The majority of people with mental illnesses are not of this ilk or terrorists - but by attributing this to a declared terrorist, the connections are made to people who are law abiding and trying to cope with their condition.  The media that purports to educate the public about those who need help should be careful the unintended consequences of their misplaced sympathies.
