Ri-Dick-uled Dis-Durbin' Ends Week of Weak Excuses With a Weepy Croc of Tears
"Sen.
Durbin Apologizes for Gitmo Remarks" ends a week of equivocation, prevarication
and outright self-delusion before throwing in the towel and apologizing for
his disgraceful remakrs on the Senate floor comparing activities at Gitmo to
those of the Soviet gulag, the Khmer Rouge and the Nazis, evoking condemnation
from the GOP and some Dems - the rest running for cover if they had any sense
and the few fringers applauding.
In light of the "Club Gitmo" (term coined by Rush Limbaugh), based
on records and Congressional testimony and the tony treatment of Saddam Hussein
relative to the conditions our troops are exposed to on a daily basis, the inappropriateness
of Senator Durbin and his cronies fighting for the rights of detainees is not
resonating with many Americans. The detainees and Saddam Hussein are safer in
American custody than anywhere else - and many in the Third World would have
their lifestyle seriously upgraded in an American facility. It is time now to
focus on the real victims - the Iraqi populace being targeted by homicidal insurgents
and our troops defending them.
